Phase II (2007 -2011) Name Change to Bridge of Hope
In 2009, the organization changed its name from "Bride to Israel" to "Bridge of Hope" while continuing its operations in Ethiopia. The name was changed to fulfil the government requirements related with NGOs operating in the country.
Bridge of Hope expanded its services and continued to support more children and families in need during this phase. The following were the major milestomes of the phase:
- A total of 114 children (51F and 63F) that include OVC and abandoned babies were admitted to the children’s village during this phase.
- Including the newly admitted children mentioned above, a total of 147 children (77M and 70F) were receiving holistic care and support in BoH’s Children’s village during the phase.
- All the 147 children under institutional care were getting well balanced diet, shelter, cloths, health services and education.
- In addition to the basic services, the children were receiving psychosocial support that constitute guidance and counseling, capacity building training, ethical education, sports and art, socialization and practical works.
- Four additional homes each with 4 rooms and associated facilities were constructed at this phase and girl children and boys started to live in separate homes. Unnecessary biological attraction and consequent sexual relation between children of opposite sex was averted timely as boys and girls started to live in separate buildings.
- Family-type childcare that was designed to enable the children feel at home was rendered in the 8 well-furnished homes, each with a well-trained fulltime mother. Four of the homes were for male children and the rest four were for the females.
- In 2008, a modern 1st cycle school called Magdalena Academy was established in Gondar BoH compound in addition to its well-known Kindergarten. The school was giving educational service for 73 children under BoH village and 225 children from the local community every year. The organization was educating 72 children in its village in the privet school called King’s Academy. These situations created great opportunity for reintegration and socialization of BoH village children with the outside community children.
- Out of the children under BoH village, 88 (34M and 54F) were given for legal adopters from USA, Switzerland and Ethiopia during this phase. It is believed that these children will get better opportunity in their life as they grow under accustomed family setup and get all the legal rights that apply to all biological children.
- The on-going natural resource conservation and environmental protection activities continued during this phase.
